Civic Review has made such a drastic change in the way our department operates. It would be hard for me to list everything that has become easier and quicker. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back to the old way we used to do things.
The City of Grain Valley was incorporated in 1884. It can be found just east of Kansas City. Grain Valley has seen Lewis and Clark, the Osage Tribe, the Civil War, and the expansion of the railroad. Grain Valley currently has an estimated population of 16,673. As a desirable location with a rich history, it is predicted to continue growing with plans for new development.
Prior to Civic Review, Grain Valley was handling all permits using paper. There was no way for them to accept digital applications. They had to juggle multiple copies and versions of plans. The review process was messy and took too long.
The Building Official at Grain Valley said,
There were many challenges before Civic Review. We worked with a program that was like no other program we had for anything else we do. There was no way to apply for a permit online and you couldn’t submit plans digitally so we were using several copies of hard set plans so if we needed revisions then we were recycling the old plans all the time.
They also struggled to keep track of the many inspections they do daily.
We also still carried a clipboard and carbon copy paper to do inspections with. More times than not the copy would always be lost or hard to read so we were getting lots of phone calls wanting to know if the inspection happened or what was being said on the inspection sheet.
It was at this point they recognized that something needed to change. They began searching for a solution to streamline their process to reduce headaches and maximize efficiency.
Grain Valley discovered quickly that Civic Review was the right decision for them. After comparing other companies, they said:

It met all of our needs and offered things I didn’t even think about. It moved us from carbon paper and rolls and rolls of plans to allowing all of our citizens and customers to apply online and submit their plans online. It allows us to do our inspections on our phones or tablets and even lets us take a picture in the field and add the photo to the inspection report and then we can email our report right to the builder or job superintendent.
